OK, question. Are there any members of the Masonic Lodge ehre? I have my home visit intervire this weekend and I'm getting very excited and nervous about joining!!!! Sooo, anyone a member???

Kevin

Good for you!!! Nothing to be nervous about, just be yourself and not what you think they wanna see you'll learn that Masonry is in your heart 24/7 and you'll either be a good one or bad one. Not all Masons are good Masons, no matter how hard they try to convince folks that they are.
Keep that in mind during your visit... Look em dead in the eye and see if it makes em nervous... may give you an idea of who you'll be dealing with..

Let's hear how it turns out for you...

BTW.... 17 years

My grandfather was a mason/member for many years. I never
knew what it was about, I asked my father when grandpa
died and he said they helped people and things like that.
Dunno. But good luck.

I'm NOT a Mason....been a GRANGE member all my life and know that 5 of 7 founders of GRANGE were MASONS. My Dad "joined both about the same time" and said he had a tough time keeping ritualism straight. I have a very deep regard for the Masonic Order.

Rick...Old Richmond Grange #675 in NC

My father-in-law was a Mason. My mother-in-law was, and my wife and daughter are, Eastern Star members.

Dunno, I just never got interested.

A lot of people don't believe me but I am a member. I'm out of
Lodge number 331 in Ligonier, PA. I've been a member for 2 years
now. I'm only 20. We have a very good younger generation
involved in our lodge.

Joined in 2000 the same year my father became a 50
year member. Ran the chairs (sort of) then was
made Secretary for a few years.

Consider it a very worthwhile group to be a part
of. What you get out of it is proportional to
what you put in but the rewards will always
exceed.

If you are joining to replace your church you will
be sorely disappointed. If you are joining to
amplify your religion you will be richly rewarded.
I know I was.

Grace 519 in Iowa also Sioux City Scottish Rite.

I am, and proud to be a part of this great frarernity. Goes back at least 6 generations in my family that I know of. I still get excited and nervous at times, but enjoy it as much as ever. Always be your self and treat everyone with respect and kindness.

Good Luck

You've taken the first step. That means you are sincere. It's our honor to meet other sincere men.

Masonry is non-denominational. All religions are welcome. At one time, the Roman Catholic Church banned congregants from Masonry, but that is mostly ignored. I know several fine Masons who are Catholic. Masonic precepts are based on religion, however, Masonry is not a religion.

Masons will allow anyone to petition providing they are male, of age, and have a belief in a supreme being.

Some Churches will have a problem with their members joining. My view on this as a Mason was if someone of one of these religions were to ask me about petitioning the first place I would send them is to the pastor of their church. I don't think the Catholics excommunicate for Masonic membership and I have known of some Catholics who are members.

Member for over 41 years and Past Master of Liberty Lodge #299, Free and Accepted Masonry, Santa Clara, California. One of the best things if not the very best thing I ever did in my life was to petition the Masonic Lodge for membership.

Normally, I'd let that comment pass. But I'll let you ask any of the children in the Shriner's Children's Hospitals, people who have been horribly burned in the Burn Centers, and the elderly who are cared for in the Masonic Homes scattered throughout the entire country.

went into my home lodge in 1968, since then I have been Master of three Lodges and secretary of one.

Life member and past master of Full Moon #341 Grafton, IL. If anyone has been hesitant to petition I offer this: Ask and you shall recieve, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened in to you.

Didn't the Pope frown on secret organizations that the church was a part of? And the Pope set up the "Knights of Columbus" to provide a "masonic" type of organization ?

Around here every service group be it the Rotary, Lions, Kinsmen, Orange Men, Royal Canadian Legion, Women's Institute, Agricultural Society and Masons. They are all suffering declining membership. Too few young/middle aged folk with time on their hands.
Now there is the internet, computer games, cable/satellite TV, work, commute time from work etc. People have "less" free time and more entertainment. It used to be a big deal to get out of the house and away from the wife/children to attend a lodge meeting. Now it seems to be a nuisance to join a club/group?
The Masons around here are past middle age and are almost asking people to join. They are approaching people to recruit new members. They even had a booth set up at the local farm show and running folk through a display tent trying to drum up interest. They even had a display at the local museum last year.
I wonder what the membership numbers and average age are vs. 40 years ago?

I haven't thought about the Masons in years.
In 1980 I went through the 3 degrees while I was in college. Shortly after, I left school and moved out west - Co, UT, AK for several years and never returned to it. I wonder if there would still be any records that I was a member.
I think the lodge I was in is still extant - not even sure of that.
I am a Catholic and at the time asked my priest who has since passed on but at the time was a very good friend of mine about joining and he said it was ok. At one time the Church frowned upon the Masons and that is why they created the Knights of Columbus. I don't know much about K of C but have heard it is a similar fraternal order designed to keep Catholic guys a little closer to the flock.

Never too late Brother..... But I'll still disagree with you and keep ya walkin a straight line.... And, yes, there will be a record somewhere (at least our Grand Lodge keeps track)..... You should at least look into it just to freshen the records... I haven't been to a lodge meeting in 12 years but keep my dues paid and support fundraisers as much as possible..... I see the ones I care the most about on a daily basis at work and around the community so just don't go to lodge like I'd like too....Seems there is always something else going on lodge night.....

Past Master of Pomeroy Lodge, Pomeroy, Ohio and present member of Middleport # 363, Middleport, Ohio. My wife & I are Past Worthy Matron & Patron Of our Eastern Star Chapter. I totally agree, you get out of the lodge more than you put in to it. It's my belief that the Masonic Fraternity takes a good man and helps make him a better person. Keith

Hey, any chance you know Charles and Mary Stover from Bidwell area????? 60's to mid 60's in age... He's a shriner and I believe she's an Eastern Star....

I have been a Master Mason for 4 years, and am currently serving as the Master of my lodge. Best group of men I have ever associated with, overall.
If Masons don"t help people, who pays for the Shriner"s burn hospitals? Or their hospitals for crippled children? What about the Scottish Rite and their childhood language centers? The York Rite supports Alzheimer"s research.
Don"t forget about the Masonic homes for older Masons, their widows, and relatives. The medical care there is free. They pay for whatever insurance and Medicare doesn"t. Most were originally started as orphanages, before the state run orphanages were common, and lots of young parents died early from TB and the like!
The ladies of the Order of the Eastern Star raise money for cancer research. Then there are the local lodges with their blood drives. Blood transfusions never helped anybody, did they? Or the money we donate to help Eagle scouts with their projects. And what about all the work that Masons do in their communities through organization other than the lodge? We only raise between two and three MILLION dollars a DAY, for charity!
Nah, we Masons don"t help anybody but ourselves! We must be evil, teaching friendship, morality, and brotherly love the way we do!(sarcasm alert!)
By the way, I have found that most people who talk us down are either conspiracy theory lovers, or have been rejected by a lodge. Which one are you?

(I only hope all you good Brothers out there tell how much you and our craft mean to me!)

Mason since 1974, past Master, Scottish Rite,
past Thrice Potent Master.
My ancestors have been Masons since before Civil
war times. As a young man, I was hurt that nobody "Asked" me to join, until I found out that
the individual has to ask..I did,and was accepted
by the greatest group of men that I've ever met!

SSSSHHHHHH!! someone'll get em in a wad and get this poofed......

Besides, I like to read the reasons "not to be"......

But, you are more right than you think.....

I will reaffirm your post. Yes the KC's are a very similiar organization to the Mason's. Yet another good organization who helps people and builds character.

If you went through the three degrees the Grand Lodge of the state you joined in will have record of it. Also if the lodge you joined is seemingly closed the charter went to another lodge. If you dropped out either by just not paying your dues or by demitting (requesting your memebership be dropped) rejoining is pretty easy. Also rejoining in another state (with a couple exceptions) is not a major issue just takes a little more time. Just some of the tidbits I learned during my stint as secretary.

Member for 40 years. Father was a Mason and I joined at age 21. Best thing I ever did, greatest fraternity in the world. Past Master, Lodge Secretary for 30 years, Past Most Wise Master of Rose Croix and Shriner. I travel to many lodges around our state and enjoy the fellowship. Mason's and their appendant bodies donate over $2 million dollars to charities per day. You will never regret joining this organization that has had a very big part in making this country what it is today.

Here in Minneapolis the have the Masonic Heart Hospital - part of the UofM hospital system.
I know they do a lot of research there and at least part of the funding comes from the Masons.
We also have the Shriner's Hospital just across the river in St Paul. It is a world renown place for Burn victims to be treated. There is no charge to the patient for their care.

Yes. Since they stick with dogma and the rules don't change because society changes, last time I heard you cannot be a member of that church and be in any secret organization and that was the way it was for as long as I remember and before.

The KC's have duties other than brotherhood. They have uniforms and swords and provide escort services for church dignitaries at some formal church functions. Yes they are socially helpful, but there is no big initiation and all that and it's activities are open.

One thing they really like to do, down here in Texas is have family get-to-gethers and drink all the beer and eat all the barbecue they can hold.....then get out on the dance floor and do some Polkas.....and yes Catholics can dance and drink.

HTH,

Mark

The Knights of Columbus was started by a priest in Connecticut to protect widows and orphans through a low cost insurance program. It is the largest Catholic mens fraternal organization, currently 1.8 million members worldwide. I"ve been a member for 45 years, Past Grand Knight of a neighboring Council, current Grand Knight of our local Council.

The four principles of the Knights of Columbus are Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Yes, there is still a very meaningful and elaborate initiation ceremony. Meetings are open to any member who has attained at least the First Degree (out of 4).

Been a member since '06. Presently master of my craft Lodge, Acacia #8, and Cumberland Chapter #13 Royal Arch Masons.

Been one since I turned 21 and was old enough to petition, have served as worshipful master of Melissa 569 AF&AM three times, 32degree Scottish Rite and a Shriner. Simply the greatest fraternal organization on the planet, and is the father of both the protestant reformation, the enlightenment, and representative democracy. As to any anti-religious bias against Freemasonry, I am also an Ordained Baptist Minister, and can assure you there is nothing about the Lodge that will do anything but make you closer to your Creator, and be of better service to your Fellow Man. Like most things in this life, you will get out of it what you put in it.

Member since 1978 you only get out of it what you put in it.Met some of the greatest people in my travels and wouldn't change a thing except would have joined sooner. Neil

Been a member of Henderson Lodge #477 since 1980, went in the Scottish Rite and York Rite in the spring of 1981 and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in the fall of 1981.
The best thing you will ever do, the best people you will ever meet you'll only get out of it what you put in it!!

Well sir, beins I was a member of Council 34XX, can't remember the rest of it, in Garland, Texas, I know what is expected and what is going on and I participated in the work and in the play afterwards.
