GM changed 2005 so you can't change the automatic lock feature yourself any longer. In 2006 and newer models the dealer can set it to manual only position but not on all year models. Even when it is changed it will default back if you remove the battery for service.
I have two newer GM vehicles that do this automatic lock deal. I had both turned off by the dealer. One keeps defaulting back. I removed the door panel and unplugged the power locks on the drivers door.
I like you hate being locked into a vehicle without any control. I was in a pickup that went through the ice up in MN twenty years ago. IF it had the auto locks we would have drown because the wiring shorted out as the truck submerged. The power windows had quit and we had to break the windows to get the pressure to let us open the doors. I refuse to ride in a vehicle that has the doors electrically locked. When I want out I want out!!!!
