The reason is not to lessen our dependence on foriegn oil i assure you. if it is piped to texas it is much easier to put it on a boat and send it around the world. And that can be the only logical reason. Our goverment would rather we pay 5 dollars a gallon for diesel imported from overseas, than to see us build a refinery and use American or Canadian oil. I live in north dakota and the only way we will get another refinery(there is one in Mandan) is if the the Indians can fund it and build it on the reservation. On a side note since our countrys #2 export is now oil i think it should be mandatory that all fuels exported should be blended at least 20% ethanol and 40% biodiesel. I have no problems with ethanol or biodiesel, but i personally dont run it in my vehicles but i live in America and believe people should be able to have the choice. I wish our country could get out of opec and let supply and demand actually dictate the price of fuel.
Ive called my state legislators, ive been told "that another refinery under current administration and forseeable future administrations is not environmentally feasible" So next time you buy a couple thousand gallons of fuel for your farm thank a tree hugger and an oil company for supporting your local congressman.
