I'll relate my experience driving a 1086 and a 3588 pulling the same planter.
I didn't notice a lot of difference in the field, the 3588 may have been louder when turning due to the clunky-clunky sound of the u-joints especially at lower r.p.m.'s.
On the road the 3588 was definitely louder. It had a gear whine that caused me to wear ear plugs.
I have no idea if all 2+2's are that noisy or not. One of it's good points is it can ALMOST walk on water.
