A farm store that sells tractor chains probably will sell you the extra links and cross chain assembly you need to make the chains work. It is not difficult at all to lengthen them. My experience is that chains tend to loosen up after you have used them awhile, and mine NEED to be tightened a couple of times after I put them on. I also use several shock cords per side to keep the chains tight and properly positioned.
What did you have to pay for the used chains? I bet less than half of what new ones would cost. Good luck, chains make winter work possible with a 2wd tractor! I have been surprised at what I could get through chained up...but you still can get horribly stuck if you push it too far. BTDT!
