I heard the Department of Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, being interviewed on the radio this morning. All that he would mention was that texting and holding a cell phone in ones ear while driving, was dangerous. What he absolutely did not mention was that the proposed ban not only includes speaker phones and blue tooth handless cell phones, but goes so far as to recommend that cell phone manufacurers MUST develope technologies that disable the cell phones when inside vehicles if the engine is running.
In true politician form, this guy would only repeat half of the story over and over again, only the part about texting and holding the phones against one's ear, which most people would admit are dangerous and would say "That makes sense", intentionally leaving out the fine print "No speaker phones, no blue tooth ear phones, phones must be disabled while engine is running". And I would venture to guess that in true political fashion, that the fine print also suggests other things that are not even cell phones. Another one of those "We need to pass the law to find out what's in it", like happens more and more these days.
The radio interviewers, Don and Roma, of WLS-AM Chicago asked him abut smoking, since Don was a former smoker that had dropped the cigarette in his lap a few times while driving, and whether or not LaHood had ever used a cell phone or eaten a Big Mac while driving before being issued a taxpayer financed chauffer driven limo, and his only concern is that it dangerous, again, intentionally leaving out the fine print that politicians always do.
I hear that a CBS poll out yesterday or the day before that said that like 62% or 64% of Americans fear bigger government. Perhaps LaHood should have been asked about that, no fine print to intentionally not mention.
