I don,t know how to start a poll so here goes. The NTSP has just recommended a ban on cell phone use and texting while driving. Get the complete story on CNN. What do you al think about this?

Distracted driving can take many forms to include, changing CD or radio stations, texting, talking smoking ECT ECT.....all bad things but I do believe that applying makeup and texting are about the worse......will it go through? Remains to be seen.

Rick

I saw a video several months ago of 3 teenagers that got in real bad accidents while texting. 1 kid, a 20 year old had serious brain damage after running into a tree, a mental vegetable now. A 17 year old girl hit a concrete median and was killed, while texting. I forgot what the 3rd accident was. Texting and driving at the same time....Stupid is as stupid does.

Welllllll if a body has to wear seat belts while driving to save lives, looks to me like not texting while driving is even more of a life saver...My neighbors recently got rear ended by a teen dude who was texting instead of keeping his eyes on the road. Driving is a privelige NOT a right. Im normally NOT a fan of big brother big government nanny state regulations mind you, let people do as they please SO LONG AS IT DONT HARM OTHERS, BUT when their chosen actions get others killed, now thats a whole other story.

Ya know folks used to get by just fine BEFORE cell phones and texting while driving, so dont tell me its any normal life necessity. I wonder how many innocent folks have to die before they ban texting while driving??? If it happended to some politicians wife or daughter bet they will lead the charge. If people drive drunk (impaired driving) and kill someone they go to jail (as they should) so what if someone was impaired by texting and kills an innocent person??????

Ol John T

It is all ready a law here in many New England states, CT, RI, and ME no talking or texting. MA no texting, not sure on VT or NH.

Andrew

Cell phones especially texting is a hazard to everyone sharing the road with these people that have little awareness to what is happening around them.

I say yes ban the use of cell phones while driving.

The next question I ask myself is how does law enforcement enforce the ban? That I believe is an impossible task.

Definitely should be banned.

How about GPS devices.....probably safer than juggling a road map on your lap or backing up to a missed exit, or arguing with your wife about directions

Trouble is our "common sense" seems to be disfavored in much of todays so called "progressive society" grrrrrrrrrrrrrr glad Im old enough to have seen this Country in its better days (at least morally speaking) then its now declining years.

John T Conservative Christian Fuddy Duddy and proud of it

I've only had three people come across the centerline at me. None of them looked up to see me before they got past me. I have been lucky so far and have been able to get out of there way. Many are not so lucky.

The MOST DANGEROUS thing on the highways is a WOMAN with a CELL PHONE...she will be using it for TEXTING, or have both hands off the steering wheel while gesturing , or.....???

The advent of headsets and other "hands free" devices was a big step in the right direction.

I've even seen (on MORE THAN one occasion) people reading newspapers and books.

It is amazing...as well as scary...what you can see from the cab of an 18-wheeler.

RICK...a 1.5 million mile driver...RETIRED!!

I love it. I hope they can make it happen. Years ago I started making a habit of turning my cell phone off when I get into a car. Even though I have been suffering for the last two years from injuries from an accident where a lady rear ended me when I slowed to make a left turn. Maybe if she didn't have her head plugged into her cell phone, she would have noticed my turn signal.

If you cause an accident - due to being distracted . . or from not having your vehicle under control . . . it's already against the law. Adding new laws makes little sense to me when the old ones aren't enforced.

Big news yesterday when the kid supposedly caused that big accident with the school bus? The news says it was caused by his texting. NO it wasn't. The school bus crashed because its driver was driving too fast and following too closely. The kid may of crashed his own car from texting, but the bus crashed due to the bus driver's fault.

Also just had a woman get killed here because somebody's SUV was parked on a steep hill. It rolled backwards, went into her yard and killed her. NO charges file and was called a Ford vehicle malfunction. Again, pure nonsense. NY State law states a parked car just be left in gear or park, parking brake must be engaged, and front wheels cut all the way to left or right.

These new laws are money makers and accomplish nothing for the overall public good.

I was stopped to make a left hand turn on my Night Hawk, and a 17 year old girl talking on a cell phone rear ended me while doing thirty miles an hour. Flying through the air and landing on the pavement was no fun! I pull off the road when I need to talk on the cell phone.

driving requires 100% of your attention. AT&T had a really good video on testing and driving, it will break your heart to watch it. they showed several families that had lost teenagers due to texting and driving.

Amen!

Just like the Firestone/Explorer fiasco.

Ignorant drivers running around on low tires simply ruined a very good tire company.

Allan

Yes, and my best friend crashed his 58 Vette and got killed in the 1960s - from tuning his radio while driving, with his girlfriend almost on his lap. Funny that after all these years, car radios are still legal. Seems Corvettes and girlfriends are also.

Drivers have caused deaths from reading while driving, farding, tuning radios, hunting, even just talking too much. You cannot legislate common sense.

Look at the Cop who crashed yesterday and has not been charged. In HIS case, the "autorities" say he was only "momentarily" distracted. Hmmm. Ever read a report of a civilian causing and accident and only being "momentarily" distracted?

"Miami police have yet to release a name for the officers who crashed his car into a pole early this morning near NW 6th Avenue and 67th Street. All they've said is he was momentarily distracted and made it out of the car without any injury."

I saw that video once, I think it showed the remains being put in a body bag !!!!! Yep if your wife or son or daughter were the one who got killed or turned into a vegetable by someone texting, then Id say you might not be fond of the practice to say the least

(quoted from post at 06:52:57 12/14/11) Amen!

Allen,
You ,me and not too many other people believe that!

I'm not fond of anyone driving like an idiot. When it happens, I blame the driver and not an inanimate device.

If I had a loved one get hurt or killed by a driver who was texting - I'd want the driver hung and not the device banned.

Some people can drink a beer, read a book and pick their nose and still drive fine. There are others that have accidents often with no distractions involved whatsoever.

As Dirty Harry once stated - "A good man always knows his limitations." Goes for women too.

Allan, not sure if this is true or not, but I have always heard that Ford recommended a lower tire pressure than Firestone, because at the proper pressure, those darn Explorers rode like an ice wagon with square wheels. Anybody out there know if this is true?

I LOVE and truly enjoy these kinds of discussions, gets my old engineering and lawyer LOGIC brain to working. I have a few hypothetical questions: Remember driving is a Privelige NOT a right and I personally believe(and to each their own opinions) a person should have rights and freedoms SO LONG AS THE EXERCICE DOES NOT CAUSE HARM OR SEVERE RISK OF HARM TO OTHERS, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

1) Would you be in favor of a law that sets safe reasonable speed limits while driving and if so why?????

2) Would you be in favor of a law that forbids driving while blindfolded and why???

3) Would you be in favor of a law that forbids driing while intoxicated and why??

4) (I personally enjoy shooting sports and guns)
Would you be in favor of a law that forbids discharging firearms in crowded public spaces and why

Get the drift???????????????????

OKAY BEFORE ANYONE HAS A CALF THIS IS NOTTTTTTTTTTT TO START A FIGHT OR ARGUE AND ALL ARE ENTIELD TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS

The above is ALLLLLLLLLLLL Im asking, Im sayimg no more, Im not taking any side in asking and am NOT gonna argue or fight and dont want to attack anyone personally for their opinions nor be attacked for askinG these thought provoking questions

God Bless you all and Merry CHRISTmas

lets not forget..

no eating while driving.

no drinking while driving.

no talking while driving.

no smoking while driving.

no chewing gum while driving.

no radio while driving.

no air conditioner while driving.

no adjusting mirrors while driving.

no makeup while driving.

no fingernail polish while driving.

no one in other front seat while driving.

no one with low iq while driving.

no one allowed to drive when raining.

no one allowed to drive when snowing.

no one allowed to drive when freezing.

no one allowed to drive at night.

no car can go over 20 mph.

Makes my wife mad if she is riding with me and my phone rings and I don't pay any attention to it. Its in my front pocket and can't get it out anyway.

I'm ready for the dang car to drive itself... we're almost to that point... then no more 'driver' error.... it'll be 'computer' error that gets people killed and then it'll be out of our hands... Legislated, of course... you won't be 'able' to drive, even if you wanted to...

I sit here at my desk at work for hours at a time. I've watched a complete moron go from, well a moron, to the worlds biggest technology junkie in about 4 months. Now he has an iphone, and spends more time on that thing than doing his job, texting while hes on the forklift, updating his Facebook page during breaks, (Which is fine I guess), lives in his own little dramatic world! In the last month, hes hit the racks 4 times, ruined thousands of dollars in raw materials, and has tore up two container trailers, all because he was texting! What pizzes me off even more, boss wont do anything about it! Its only a matter of time before he kills someone, or himself on the road. So Im for banning it, period!

One of my all time greats is - while driving in the great state of South Carolina I was in the right lane and up comes a car appeared to be a family - the driver was rather a big man and sitting on his belly was a bowl of cereal he was eating while driving and taking refills while passing me.
Applying makeup at interstate speeds in rush hour traffic.
Reading a newspaper and or book while in stop and go rush traffic.
Tooo many times having to honk at the texting brain trust in front after the light turned green.

NTSB stated 3000 died while on the phone and etc. - how many died to all other distractions? 900,000 accident were caused by electronic things.

I may need some help from the Ontario citizens about DUI's - I understand your car is taken when arrested?

I frequently see a lady going home from work on the interstate. She's drives 40 mph DWY (driving while yacking) in a 55 zone with hand gestures while she driving. She also keeps a hundred yards behind traffic in front of her. Everybody else on the highway is driving crazy trying to get around her changing lanes and some driving on the shoulder. I can't believe she doesn't realize she is a menace to society.

New York motor vehicle law has had this reg since before WWII:

A driver is required to have the vehicle under control at all times and under all conditions.

That law covers just about any accident. "Authorities" are supposed to investigate and use prudent discression.

As to "speed limits." In NY and probably all other US states, we are only allowed to drive at a safe speed and the posted limits only count when road conditions allow. If the speed limit is 65 MPH and you crash at speed of 55 MPH when driving on black ice, you are legally liable.

My point here is . . . all the scenarios you mentioned are already covered by the law.

Funny though that police are exempt. In the state of New York, police ares are NOT considered motor vehicles and are therefore not subject to NY motor-vehicle law.

Seems the news already sees it that way. I've heard many news reports of "SUVs killing pedestrians or causing accidents." I always wonder - what about the driver?

I was heading for Lansing Mi on I96 just out of Brighton. Was almost side swiped by a silver Prius. Backed off just in time for it to come into my lane. Prius was weaving in the lane like they were drunk. Speed varied from 50 to 85mph. One time I don't know why the car didn't roll over it was instantly 90 degrees of the lane. Prius wobbled but straightened out and kept going weaving all over. Finally passed it to get away from it and it was a 60 something woman on a cell phone.

They need to ban sleeping while driving, too.

The biggest change I've seen in driving habits in the last 10 years, other than fumbling with cell phones, is that HALF THE PEOPLE ON THE ROAD DON'T USE TURN SIGNALS ANYMORE. Drivers just move from one lane into another without signalling their intent to change lanes, and when drivers have to make real turns, do you think they bother to use their turn signal? Not anywhere around Atlanta. It's a lot safer on the road if you have an idea of what drivers around you are intending to do. This courtesy is quickly going the way of the passenger pigeon. Replaced with the element of SURPRISE.

All for it myself, ive seen the videos also, and seen wrecks (too many) happen while driving when i was on the road alot. But its just not phones, saw a bunch of teenage girls hit the back of a semi once while they were hollering at a couple of boys walking down the road, truck slowed to make a turn and the girls never even noticed. Driving a mustang convertable and threw one right out and slammed her into the back of the truck, didnt kill her but should have ,she'll never move again. I already was stopped behind them with my flashers on before they even hit,saw it coming as sure as anything. Saw another 65 chevy pickup drive right under a semi trailer, took the top off that pickup and cut that boy right half in two as slick as if you had used a saw. He Was texting and ran a red light. Had one total a car for me two years ago when he hit the back of my car about fifty,he was looking at a map.never even hit the brakes.I saw him top a little rise behind me where i was stopped for a van full of church kids making a left turn. spun the wheel because i knew he couldnt stop so i wouldnt hit the van, and closed my eyes to try to keep glass out of them. he never even hit the brakes!
did you see the show on mythbusters where they tested this? i just happened to see it ,i dont watch it as a rule. They had a police course set up. Drove it sober with no distractions and did pretty good, then got legally drunk and and tried it . Got about half the score. Then they had the drivers simply use a hands free cell phone while driving it,every single one without fail did the very worst just by having their mind occupied by a conversation. They didnt test it but the police guy running the test course said just having someone in the front seat carrying on a conversation was almost as bad.

I say we just outlaw cars and be done with the whole darn mess. that solves all our driving while.... problems. No more drive by shootings. No more driving while texting, No more drunk driving. No more driving while suspended. No more driving while ANYTHING. then we each get to be appointed our own Govt driver to get us to where we want to go? This is rediciulous.

I'm definitely for It. I have been driving for 50+ years in some of the largest cities in the US and rural. Never in my life have I experienced some of the stuff as I have in today's driving where I have personally experienced the operator was on a cell phone.

In one instance, was 2nd car from an intersection with a red light, left turn lane. Light turns green, car in front pulls out into the intersection just enough to put me where she was and starts her left hand turn waiting for traffic to clear so that she can pull on out.

The traffic cleared and she just sat there through the entire green light. After it turned red, the traffic from the cross lane pulled up to her (she was blocking the intersection) and she moved on off still bobbing her head and still yacking on her XXXXX cell phone.

Ban em.

Mark

(quoted from post at 05:56:47 12/14/11) I don,t know how to start a poll so here goes. The NTSP has just recommended a ban on cell phone use and texting while driving. Get the complete story on CNN. What do you al think about this?

I agree 100%, and I expect it WILL happen.

I say it will never happen, if it does it cant be enforced. There is no difference to this then doing anything in a vehicle, smokeing , fooling with the air cond.radio , heater, power windows, etc etc etc etc it goes on and on. We got along fine before a dam cell phone came along so I say ban the USE but I really dont SEE it HAPPENING or WORKING. just my .02cts

That's not the only thing going out on the roads. We had an engineer that ate his breakfast cereal on his way to work by using his knees to steer with. Had the dish laying on his lap.

He was later fired for telling our civilian personnel office he had completed a course paid for by the government. When they found the truth he was gone along with his cereal dish. Hal

Normally I agree with but this time....
Driving is not longer a privelige it's a necessity. If you don't believe me try going without your ability to drive.
The police and other governmental people want us to believe driving is a privelige.

My state (ND) banned it this fall. It was banned in a couple of large towns last year and is state wide as of last fall. They are serious about it, they say they have unmarked cars along with the marked cars to grab these dummys. Gets you a $100 fine first time.

Implying that using cell phone can and should be regulated like any other distraction or danger?

You only asked one question so it was easier to answer than all of John's questions. ;)

--->Paul

S@#*S---it"s either all or none,,,they don"t enforce 4-wheelers laws,,,what about cops driving down the road on lap-tops,,,there are more cars on cell than truck drivers, one truck per twenty + cars,,yet the trucks driver are the victims when a car causes them into a accident.....only in America does the gov screws up the laws....
a56138.jpg

Wouldn't worry about that law if passed. After the dust, and sweat ruined my last phone, I never got another one. Plus I was always looking for it, don't realy miss it. Even if I was having the big one one day, by the time anyone found me my tractor motor would would probably still be running, and I would probably have assumed room temperature. Stan

Federal DOT banned all texting while in a commercial vehicle. There seem to be a lot of states that have passed laws about texting while driving. Indiana were I live passed it in July I think but really seems to not have any effect on people, cause I sure still see an awful lot of people still texting while driving. so many people I think live in the It wont happen to me world. Texting while driving is as bad as driving drunk if you ask me.May be even worse. Ive been a volunteer firefighter for 17 years and seen alot of really bad wrecks. I always kinda thought anyone caught dui should have to see what can happen first hand with pictures or have to go out and see what we see.I think the same is true for people who text while driving. I mean really, what can be so damn important that you cant wait till your at your destination to answer. I admit Ive talked on my phone while driving but its rare I do. Most of the time its only when its someone from the farm callin cause I know its important or they wouldnt be calling and I try to get somewhere to pull over if I can.

WOW what a large number of replies. I did some comps on these replies and most encourage the ban. Also most who replied gave some personal experience relating to their opinion. Yes, there are some naysayers and they too are entitled to their opinion. Funny thing though none of this latter group cited an experience that led to their expressed opinion. Wonder why.

I read on the internet a few weeks ago about a teen age girl was home alone and heard someone breaking into the house. She picked her 12 gauge shotgun and killed the man coming up the steps. The second thief started to run and she
fired at him. I think she may have killed him too. They didn't know she a champion skeet shooter. I think this happened in Montana. Hal

Grandson is starting to drive cars and tractors. I hope his mother takes that thing away from him while he's driving. I've told him to put it in his pocket when he's working around here, and next time I see him with it out on a tractor, I'm gonna take it away from him until he's finished what he's doing.

It can be enforced very easily. They can see the device moving. If it is moving over 4 MPH, it does not work. No need to worry about enforcing something if it won't work. Downside is, passenger's won't work either, but there isn't much carpooling going on , anyway.

I'm for the ban.

Coupla years ago, I was waiting to walk across the street at the second busiest intersection in Lincoln, Nebraska. A gal made an illegal U turn right in front of me with a cell phone in one hand and a sandwich in the other. Not sure how she was steering.

I've often thought the same thing. We now have tractors that will drive themselves(Kinzie I think) cars should not be far behind.

I agree. Closest I"ve come to getting run over in a crosswalk, was by someone on a cell phone.

Even worse, you can sure tell when an 18-wheeler is being driven by someone on a cell phone.

Good Point, some cited where accidents (maybe even death) were caused due to texting, but no one cited where maybe a life was saved because someone was texting while driving, or how where or when (while driving) its a good thing.

I dont want the government to ban guns,,,,,,,I dont want them to ban drinking alcoholic beverages,,,,,,,I dont want them to ban cell phones,,,,,,,,,,I JUST WANT THEM TO BAN DRINKING OR TEXTING ON A CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING since EITHER of those is hazardous to me or my wife or kids or their wife or their kids.

Buy hey all are entitled to their own opinions and if they dont want a ban on texting while driving or drinking while driving etc. thats their opinion, but I think the vast majority DOES NOT think it should be legal to engage in actions WHICH ENDANGER OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE ON THE FREE "PUBLIC" ROADWAYS.. Hey if they all wanna drive at high speeds on private property while texting and risk killing each other thats their choice BUT IF ON A PUBLIC ROAD WHERE INNOCENTS MAY DIE (since theyre impaired drivers) I JUST THINK THAT SHOULD BE BANNED

Thats just how Im wired and the values by which I was raised, do as I like but NOT if my actions endanger other innocent people

God Bless everyone, be safe, take care and yall are entitled to your own opinions, right or wrong

Merry CHRISTmas

Hope they pass the law soon. Nearly been in a bad wreck everyday this week, everytime...other driver on a phone or texting. Why should I die for your goofy phone habit?

Let's see, if the ban cell phones then they also need to banpassangers you can turn your head to look at and talk to, CB radios, eating in a vehicle, smoking in a vehicle, listening to a radio in a vehicle, and especially all of the new computers that are coming out and require a 'human interface' to work...including the ones in all of the cop cars. Basically doing anything in a vehicle that requires you to take your attention off of the road needs to be banned. Then they need to install a srap on the top of the seat to tie your head off to and make you wear blinders to insure you never look anywhere but forward since any amount if inattention at all can be deadly to you or others.................

Granted there are people that can't walk and chew gum at the same time, and I've known a few myself, but like everything else in this coutry done to "protect people from themselves" this whole idea is going over the line in my opinion. To outright ban one thing because of a few stupid people and not ban the numerous other things that can cause just as much or more distraction to a person as the one thing being banned is simply stupid.........But of course everyone out there wants to undergo the firm hand of Uncle Sam now telling you more things you can and can't do, on top of the restrictions we already have to deal with and fuss about, simply because of a few stupid people....... Like the comedian Ron White is so fond of saying, 'You can't fix stupid'... but our government seems dead set on spending more taxpayer money to enforce new rules in an effort to do just that...

the CAFE standards have killed more people than cell phones. lighter cars for fuel mileage. tired of the government regulating every aspect of our lives. texting while driving is ignorant, but now I guess we won't be able to use our radios in the firetruck, or answer a call on a handsfree device. next we will have to install a clear cage around the driver to discourage interaction with passengers, like they have in limousines. get the government out of my everyday life and I will be better off.

In my State, we have had a traffic law prohibiting using a hand-held cell phone when you drive, yet I see people doing just that almost every time I drive. The penalty is well over $100, but I suppose the law enforcement people have more important things to do than to write tickets for talking on a cell phone.

I suppose the cell phone makers could be required to manufacture the cell phones so they would not work when they were in motion, but that might not be an easy task, and it might be really expensive.

But people should just be personally responsible. We have too many laws now that are not enforced and we really don't need new ones like they are proposing.

While they are banning I would like to see them ban pets sitting in the lap of drivers too. Or running from one side of the front seat to the other poking their head out the driver's window.

I agree. All states have laws against impaired driving. That would include texting while driving. I don't need another law telling me the same thing. Just like we don't need another law telling us to stop at a stop sign.

I heard the Department of Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, being interviewed on the radio this morning. All that he would mention was that texting and holding a cell phone in ones ear while driving, was dangerous. What he absolutely did not mention was that the proposed ban not only includes speaker phones and blue tooth handless cell phones, but goes so far as to recommend that cell phone manufacurers MUST develope technologies that disable the cell phones when inside vehicles if the engine is running.

In true politician form, this guy would only repeat half of the story over and over again, only the part about texting and holding the phones against one's ear, which most people would admit are dangerous and would say "That makes sense", intentionally leaving out the fine print "No speaker phones, no blue tooth ear phones, phones must be disabled while engine is running". And I would venture to guess that in true political fashion, that the fine print also suggests other things that are not even cell phones. Another one of those "We need to pass the law to find out what's in it", like happens more and more these days.

The radio interviewers, Don and Roma, of WLS-AM Chicago asked him abut smoking, since Don was a former smoker that had dropped the cigarette in his lap a few times while driving, and whether or not LaHood had ever used a cell phone or eaten a Big Mac while driving before being issued a taxpayer financed chauffer driven limo, and his only concern is that it dangerous, again, intentionally leaving out the fine print that politicians always do.

I hear that a CBS poll out yesterday or the day before that said that like 62% or 64% of Americans fear bigger government. Perhaps LaHood should have been asked about that, no fine print to intentionally not mention.

Mark

The big problem with a new law is inforcement....and until cities, counties, states and the federal government can stop the spending madness and be able to hire more cops enforcement is going to be the problem. Heck that can't keep people from speeding how are they ever going to stop people from texting???? A device that disables the phone while it's moving??? What about a passenger who wants to talk or text? This can go a little too far.

Rick

I drive a lot of 4 lane that has a 55 truck speed limit and the 4 wheeler limit is 65, you can see people swerving all the time in the mirrors and when they pass, you can see them texting. To all of the people who can t live with out talking, what did you do 10 years ago! The resion for the "wanted" law is the dumb a** truck driver who killed some people out side of St Louis MO, something like 10 texts in 10 min. before he ran over some one.

Firestone knew good and well that you can t run a tire at 23psiand keep the side wall intact, but they didn t hold Ford to the standard and payed dearly for it.

Its fine with me...I despise cell phones...I have one for emergency use only while traveling...Its rarely ever turned..
Cant people go anywhere without talking on a stinking phone..

Honestly, Im for the ban but against the disabled cell phone thing. Theres no reason why a passenger shouldn't be on the phone or texting or whatever, but having cell phones that disable themselves over a certain speed would stop that, it just seems ludacris to me.

Just like the people that drive 70+ while texting. Out on our narrow backroads its hard enough to keep a standard sized pickup on the road (especially with a car coming the other way, or god forbid, another truck) that Ive never seen anyone out here texting and driving...

But I feel that the law should make a provision for when the vehicle is standing still. Ive shot off many a text message sitting in stand-still traffic and at red lights, etc... No harm has ever come from that...

Its fine with me...I despise cell phones...I have one for emergency use only while traveling...Its rarely ever turned..

Insurance claims voided if cell is in use texting calling or surfing. Insurance liability is covered, but personal loss is forgone. No medical for the driver.
I find it interesting that CB radios never had the stigma applied. Probably due to the limited range, and subjects discussed being traffic and small talk by drivers that in general have their act together. Interesting though. Jim

Law is absolutely idiotic!! Maybe next we should remove all passenger seats so driver can't be distracted talking to passengers! Big Brother is in your car now! Texting, holding a hand held phone, OK ban them! Hands free is no different than talking to a passenger. Another example of the idiocy in Washington and why most people have no faith in government!

Not only can it be enforced, they can look at the phone history to see when the phone was in use. They just introduced the distracted driver law in Alberta. Hands free is OK as well as emergency calls. It also applies to eating certain things while driving and anything else that is a distraction. Using cell phones behind the wheel has caused lots of accidents for sure. I think it's a good law. Driving is supposed to be a privilege after all isn't it?
