Dad lost his left leg between the knee and ankle in WWII. He served on a prosthetic leg unilt 1971 when he retired with 31 years active duty. Years after he retired and was living on the farm he kept his spare leg in the basement under the stairs. Mom and dad had a freezer in the basement and always kept ice pops for the grnadkids down there. My 2nd son and nephew when about 6 years old all of a sudden refused to go in the basement. We didn't find out until years later that dads spare leg had fallen over and the boys could see it from the top of the stairs.......and they thought grandma and grandpa were storing body parts down there!
