Another prosthetic leg story.

Dad lost his left leg between the knee and ankle in WWII. He served on a prosthetic leg unilt 1971 when he retired with 31 years active duty. Years after he retired and was living on the farm he kept his spare leg in the basement under the stairs. Mom and dad had a freezer in the basement and always kept ice pops for the grnadkids down there. My 2nd son and nephew when about 6 years old all of a sudden refused to go in the basement. We didn't find out until years later that dads spare leg had fallen over and the boys could see it from the top of the stairs.......and they thought grandma and grandpa were storing body parts down there!

Back years ago I helped out a farmer near us. The old man had lost a leg, falling from an Allis while the PTO was running. Any time someone new came around he would find a reason to use a shark knife. Once he thought he had their attention he would pause his activity and stab the knife through his jeans and into the “wooden” part of the leg. It was always interesting to watch the newcomer’s reaction.

LOL dad started milking cows after he retired from the army and had lots of grand kids. His favorite was to release the buckle on the leg, plat like his back was sore and ask one to pull his boot off......

Not a prosthetics story but funny in its own right. Back when I was I the rehab hospital one of the comedic patients rolled his wheelchair into the supply closet just before lunch in the dining area. Once into his dinner he faked a chocking, gaging cough. After a short spell he grabbed the new urinal he had hung from the side of his wheelchair and guzzled the contents. Unbeknownst to any one he had filled it with lemonade. You should have seen the reactions.
