One other thing for you to consider is that the you are going to want to take the sensor out of the spare. Most vehicles are not location sensitive meaning it looks for 4 streams of input. Some of the vehicle sensors are turned on centrifigully when the wheel spins but most of them use a radio frequency (think ipass technology). If you have an extra data stream from the wheel in the trunk the system will freak and start flashing lights. I sometimes transport my second set of wheels in my car and the tpms light freaks out when I do so.
This is why the compact spare tires don't have a tpms sensor in them. They use a higher pressure so the system wouldn't compute well.
As an aside, most companies are taking them out of the cars. They weigh a lot and with modern tire technology people don't experience enough flats to make it worth carrying around.
