I wanted to add one more thing to this discussion.
It is a younger generation thing for the most part but many of us are ditching landlines in favor of cell phones. I don't know about you but I am pretty protective of my cell phone number. You need to keep in mind that when you give it out you are essentially providing permission for someone to interrupt your day at whatever time they like. I don't hand it out like candy at Halloween.
That said, most of my transaction details happen though email as well. I can better think out my answers, ask for and send additional pictures and can respond on my terms as far as time. When a time has been set up, then the buyer or seller gets my cell phone number in case they need to contact me while I or they are driving.
Embrace digital communication; it isn't going anywhere and it tends to be the preference of the younger generation(s).
