Starter switch and electronic ignition 8N Ford

I need to replace the starter switch on my 1949 8N Ford. How complicated is this to do and what do I need to be aware of to get it done? I am considering changing to electonic ignition. Is this a big deal? How often do I need to replace parts? Thoughts and advice please!!!
