A young man was raking leaves in a residential area of Hendersonville, NC. A black bear attacked him and, having nothing else, he defended himself with the rake. The bear bit the rake handle in two but the man was able to run to his truck and get in. The bear chased him to the truck and briefly jumped in the trailer behind the truck. The bear left.
Hendersonville is near Pisgah National forest.
I live about 60 miles East of Hendersonville in SC. There is no open season on bears here. A few miles away from me some boys were hunting and came across a black bear and killed it. They were dumb enough to put it on Facebook and had to pay a $1800 fine.
