Ideal in an older tractor would be an Oliver- S55, 550, 77, 88, etc. They have an independent PTO, which is even better than live. "Live" PTO generally means a two stage clutch- push halfway down, and tractor stops; Push the rest of the way, and PTO stops. Independent means the PTO is controlled by a separate lever, completely separate from the tractor propulsion system. Later Fords, Masseys, and ACs have "live" (AC is a little different- used a 2 speed hand clutch with neutral in the middle. I baled a lot with an AC D14, and it worked fine. Gives you a no-clutch high-low tractor speed, as well).
