Our 05 Uplander has a remote for everything, locks, "trunk" side doors, etc. This remote is probably one of the worse ones ever built, as it goes out so much, we almost said the heck with it and just use the key to unlock the door. Dealer told us since we have extened GM warranty, and its a covered part, they will repalce the remote as long as we own it, so every 6 or 7 motnhs, we go in, they set the remote for the van, no scan tool at all. No its not the battery, the remote itself actually comes apart. Common for the model van/remote we have.
