We'd all like to be debt free and I'm doing fine for myself. My parents however do struggle some but that's got nothing to do with the tires on this tractor.
It's a tractor that gets roaded quite a bit hauling loads up & down the road, so we figure why bother putting new tires on that are just gonna get worn down right away anyway? Get as much use out of them as possible. If it weren't for the tire opening up in the sidewall we'd still run it for a few more years, then we'd keep the better one around for a spare, dual, or sandbox, whichever purpose it's needed for.
Tires are quite expensive, and we've got a non functioning tractor behind the barn with pretty good tires on it that are the same size, so instead of spending $1500 on a new set of tires, we'd much rather spend a few hundred to have them swapped out and let the other one sit on the rims.
Just trying to be thrifty. Still don't see the point in you bragging about your BIL being debt free. If he is, good for him. My parents have worked their butts off but haven't been as fortunate. Good news is the price of milk is finally back up where it should be so their able to pay off some bad debt.
