Ollie.To answer your question..Several year ago, when KUBOTA began to get started in the US they spent quite a bit of money to survey the market and your question was really the essence of the study and they even carried it a little farther asking people what it would take to change brands. They found that as you stated most people growed into brand loyalty, what you have is what you like.. As for the answer to what it would take to change people lots of answers like provide value, help me get my work done easier ect. They must have figured out something because not many people grew up with kubotas and now there a lot of them out there.
