I had mixed emotions regarding the series, a win-win situation. I'm an Astros fan and suffered through a disastrous season, one of many. Before the Astros, the Houston Buffs were a farm club of the Cardinals, so I have always been somewhat of a Cardinal fan. However, I had to pull for Nolan Ryan's team. I watched both Nolan and his wife Ruth grow up and they are two of the finest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. After Nolan had by-pass surgery about 10 years ago, he and I talked several times. So I was pulling for him as much as for the Rangers. The Cardinals seemed to be a miracle team this year, coming from over 10 games back late in the season. The Rangers had them down in game six but couldn't hang on. It was a great series and both teams deserve credit for a great season. C. L.
