They usually don't cost 8k but can real easily cost $4500-$5000 parts and labor. The labor to replace them is a real bear. My sons truck had two fail at 180k. GM had not extended the warranty at that time. It took us two full days to change all eight injectors.These injectors are under the valve cover. They fit into a cup that is in the water jacket.
You should run some type of fuel lubrication in them. The newer fuel seems to make the spring/seals fail more often. Make sure the additive you use does not have alcohol in it as it drys the seals faster.
