What oil do you run in it?? More history is needed to be able to help you much. If your running say a 10-30 switch to a 20-50 and see if that helps. Also if it sat parked for say a year or more before you got it do a ATF treatment to it and that may help. ATF treatment is simple put a 1/4 cup of ATF in each cylinder and let it sit a couple days. Start it up, you may need to spin it over with the plugs out to keep from hyd locking it but I would try it with out doing that because that would tell me if the rings are in fact bad.
