I agree with most of the other "old fogeys" who think that tattoos and piercings are a negative. When I've interviewed people for jobs, I can tell you that numerous individuals were NOT considered solely based on their appearance. Whether it was dressing like they were about to work on their car, had tattoos or piercings, or whatever. Had a young lady who was fine until she answered a question and I could see the stud in her tongue. She was automatically put in the reject pile. They'll never know it. We've always had more than one qualified applicant so it was not like someone less qualified was hired over them. They simply did not get the job, no reason stated or necessary.
As someone mentioned about "our youth", mohawks, crew cuts, long hair, wild clothes, all those "fads" didn't live with us the rest of our lives. I've got shoulder length hair in my wedding picture, but no employer ever sees that. My 3 daughters all considered getting tattoos when they were around 18 but I cautioned them that if they want to be professionals instead of working at 7-11, they'd better think twice. They all passed on them and are glad they did (2 attorneys and a potential doctor). My wife is a nurse and also discussed the cases of infection she's seen from piercings and tattoos.
And to "very sad", yes, it's your right to get a tattoo or piercing, so go right ahead. But don't be surprised or upset if you are discriminated against. That's our right as well.
