Thanks for your response, you answered a number of my questions. When I got the machine the screens on both the upper and lower stages were the same. I understand now that the top must be coarser and the bottom finer for each stage. I am thinking the upper stage coarse and fine screen should be larger than the bottom stage set. So there is a gradual cleaning, a true two step process. Also the machine does blow out the side and if that is an exhaust port and not an intake port then the fan is running in the right direction.
The machine is messy and I turned the exhaust port out the barn door to keep some of the mess out of the barn. But it does seem to be well balanced and runs quietly and smoothly.
