Well first off you do not have a 1946 8N they did not make them till 1948. So first off figure out what you have. 9N 1939 to 1942. 2N 1942 to 1947 and 8N 1948 to 1952 and the late 1950 was the first side mount distributor set up. If it has 3 forward speeds it is a 9N or 2N if it has 4 then an 8N. Thing to check as for spark do you have power to the top of the coil?? If not then work back to find where it stops. If you have power at the top of the coil you may have shorted something out inside the distributor which is very easy to do
