My parents stored potatos in the basement. The usually last through the winter but become a bit shriveled and start growing by early spring (still edible). Onions didnt work so well so they resided in one of the refridgorator trays (spanish) or got dehydrated (yellow and white). Mom canned the carrots. Make sure you don't leave anything in a plastic bag. It will rot.
