I wouldn't say they grind, but if you are still moving a bit they can be. I spend most of my time going from 2 to rev on mine and that shift is good. Into 1st isn't bad. 3rd and 4th can a bit, but they are also hard for me to "feel". Might not hurt to find an I&T manual or have someone here look up the adjustment. It's pretty easy if I remember right.
