One like that can be caused by many things. A simple loose wire some place. A ballast resister going bad. An ignition switch going bad. Even a coil but not as likely since they when hot start to make an engine spit and sputter then dies. As for a true 12 volt coil helping maybe maybe not unless you first find the root problem.
