If you have an exciter in the system maybe you should look at going to a 3 wire alternator and a rewire of the tractor.
You are correct about switches. They make good ones and cheap ones. I always buy the battery ignition switches for a garden tractor for my big tractor. They are designed to be exposed to the weather! I pay more for my electrics and get em from NAPA in the Echlin line if available. Blue Streak is another good brand. The stuff that TS makes and is offered by Fleet Farm, TSC and other farm supply places are not of very good quality IMO. Thinking about marine grade ones too. Going to try that on my TLB. I'm thinking thats the way to go.
