The air operated sound like the old vacuum operated wipers they had years ago. If you were going up a steep hill the wipers slowed down when the vacuum dropped. They put double action fuel pumps on cars and trucks so the bottom half would furnish enough vacuum for the wipers. These pumps created another problem when they aged they would sometimes leak gas into the engine. Our first car with electric wipers was on a 1949 Dodge my brother and I bought new. It always used oil until we put new rings in it. I drove it to Florida in 1955 about a month before I was discharged from the Army. My wife and daughter went with me and my sister.
