I have done it and only problem I have had has been they don't want to turn as good with something on the 3pt. It's very handy in the summer time when you have a flat with hay down to "borrow" an inplement tire and wheel off a disk or something that is not going to be used for a while, then you can go to town and get a new three or four rib on a day when it's rain'n.
My uncle planted several hundred acres of beans every year with a six row planter with out splitters till a few years ago. He had a set of implement tires and wheels that he would put on the planter tractor as soon as he got done with corn, swapped them when he changed meters. He found that double planting worked better with them when he turned and drove on two of the rows he just planted. He has since bought a planter with splitters.
