Its exactly the same as the deal where they send a check for your tractor that is for more than the price, and they ask you to send the surplus to their shipper.
Sure, if you cashed the check and waited 60 days to make sure it was good, you'd come out with only a minor check bounce fee- but most who fall for it would cash the check, immediately send the $2,900 to who knows where, and then get nicked for the original check amount when the bank finally gets around to bouncing it 2 weeks later.
In the comments on the website you linked, the company who drew the check was in "Chagrin Falls"- thats just too delicious- "Chagrin" is what you'll have if you fall for this deal!
