I did a tune up on my 1948 DeSoto, points, condensor, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, the works. All premium line parts from a name brand. Did the work at my Dad"s house and drive 4 block home. The next morning, went to have breakfast with my parents and the car crapped out half way there. The problem... The new condensor was no good!
Had one go in my old Jeep after about 500 miles once.
I carry a spare in with my tools with alligator clips on it so I can clip it to the coil and ground to get home. I ahve checked the bad ones on a lab grade capacitor tester and find they lose capacitance, but not become leaky.
