I'd start it with the gauge out and see if it squirts oil all over. You don't need much pressure, just flow. And you could take a handhole cover off the side and look in and see if the oil slinger troughs in the oil pan have oil in them. if they are full the rods will get oil, I wouldn't be afraid to run it a minute or two. You surely had everything oiled good when you put it together?
