Overhauled F-20

ok, we try'd to pull start it. it fired up for about 5- 6 seconds then we messed with the choke and it died. I didn't look ate the oil pressure gauge. Now the next round we try starting it it, it runs for about 10 -15 seconds, I look at the oil pressure gauge and it says no pressure. So we turn it off. The gauge is brand new and I bought it from rice equipment. I took it off and blew in the hole with my mouth, nothing. I grab the parts tractor gauge and blow into it, it goes up. So I blow into the new gauge with air compressor, and at about 5 PSI it raises the needle to the middle position. How many PSI should this engine push out. I know that all the oil lines are clear. I put 15-40 oil in it, would that make a difference? What would you do?

First off I would make sure it is timed right to fire on number one cylinder, are you getting spark from the plugs, then I would make sure the oil pump is hooked up right, then I would make sure the carburetor is clean and getting fuel thru it. You might have gotten a defective oil guage. If the old guage still works try using it. The oil weight shouldn't make a difference. Try turning it over by hand and see if you have oil coming out the line to the guage.

Not sure about the F-20, but my 10-20 has a special gauge. Engine runs at very low pressure, only about 7 psi, I think.. Might not register on a regular gauge.

I'd start it with the gauge out and see if it squirts oil all over. You don't need much pressure, just flow. And you could take a handhole cover off the side and look in and see if the oil slinger troughs in the oil pan have oil in them. if they are full the rods will get oil, I wouldn't be afraid to run it a minute or two. You surely had everything oiled good when you put it together?

Everything was oiled up with cam lube. But I don't know how long that will last if im not gettting oil pressure. Ill play with the f-20 all day today. It sounds great when it runs.
