You"re right, Steve. Those peaks are about 10-20 feet short of 10,000 feet. Our elevation is ~3100 feet. That white stuff you see on those mountains is our irrigation water and normally these peaks look like they do now in May! We had a heck of a snow pack this year. Our place is irrigated and while we have equilizing reserviors, much to my disappointment we have very little storage. It"s a rare year when we have irrigation water beyond September 15th. We hardly ever irrigate before the end of June unless we"ve had a dry spring. Our first cutting of hay is generally on Mother Nature and then we keep our pastures green with irrigation. The guys that hay seriously have a hard time getting a third cutting because our growing season is realtively short(Frost free from May 31 to September 30 with 99% probability.) and the days get really short by September so it"s hard to make any tonnage to make it worth while. If we get a a good high pressure system at the end of May, they can usually get three cuttings. That happens maybe three times in 10 years.
