Hey Jerry, what is your altitude? In Co.,those close snowcovered peaks would sugest 10,000 ft.Are you irrigated?or dryland?Reservoir water or direct runoff?thanks,Steve

Really beautiful, have a friend who has a farm with almost that same background, North of four corners. Did the same thing today, only it was so wet I left tracks, had to run in 4 wheel drive to keep from spinning when I turned. It has rained 5 inches in the last week here in southern Il.

If you mean how many frost free days, with 99% probability, it"s frost free from May 3ist through September 30.Of course two years ago, we had snow on the 10th of June I believe it was!

People call this the "banana belt" of Montana. The Indians wintered here rather than out on the plains. It gets cold but not horribly cold and if it gets cold, it usually last only a day or two. it"s a genuine 4 season climate. The onething I"ve noticed is that the seasonal changes seem to occur abruptly. It"ll be mild in late October and on Halloween it can drop to 0°F!

You"re right, Steve. Those peaks are about 10-20 feet short of 10,000 feet. Our elevation is ~3100 feet. That white stuff you see on those mountains is our irrigation water and normally these peaks look like they do now in May! We had a heck of a snow pack this year. Our place is irrigated and while we have equilizing reserviors, much to my disappointment we have very little storage. It"s a rare year when we have irrigation water beyond September 15th. We hardly ever irrigate before the end of June unless we"ve had a dry spring. Our first cutting of hay is generally on Mother Nature and then we keep our pastures green with irrigation. The guys that hay seriously have a hard time getting a third cutting because our growing season is realtively short(Frost free from May 31 to September 30 with 99% probability.) and the days get really short by September so it"s hard to make any tonnage to make it worth while. If we get a a good high pressure system at the end of May, they can usually get three cuttings. That happens maybe three times in 10 years.
