The lock rotor amps on any motor is many times more than the full load amps. Fuses are used to protect the wires from getting too hot, not to protect the motor. Motors should have their own built in protection. Increase the wire size, minumum of 12g and up the amps to 20a. If you are running a long distance go 10g and 30amps, providing your generator can put out 30a. In which case, fuses then are protecting your generator.
Where I live, a household refergerator, which only draws 5-6 amps, is required by code to be wired on a single circuit with 12g and 20 amp breaker.
If the frequency of your generator doesn't match the frequency you need, the motor may not come up to full speed as fast as needed and that will increase the amp draw too.
