There is an insulator between the stud and the starter body, it is bad. A starter shop can fix it easily. Soldering the stud is a high heat quick job, not a insta fix. The carb can be rethreaded if it is stripped but a single wrap of Teflon tape might just stop it from leaking. Remove the plug, put the tape one and 1/4 wraps onto the threads (clockwise if looking at the carb end of the plug, then re-tighten. When tightening the stud on the starter, be gentle, twisting it in the frame is a likely cause of breaking the insulator. Jim
