The mesh fence around our garden is about five feet tall. As you can imagine, deer quickly learned to jump over it. Then, at a friend's suggestion, I added two strands of 50 pound test monofilament fishing line above the mesh. One line is at about six feet, the other is 7-1/2 feet high. That fixed the problem; since I added the mono six years ago, no deer has entered the garden.
(Deer problem fixed. Woodchucks are another matter...)
