OT deer fence

I don't think an electic fence will keep them out. Most people around here in orchard/vineyard country have solid page wire fencing 8 to 10 feet high.

I have yet to find an electric fence that will even slow a deer down let alone stop them. Back when I had my field fenced that way I spent more time fixing the fence then I did most any thing else because the deer would brake it and then the horse would get out

Want them to stop? Put tin foil around it with a little bit of peanut butter on it. They lick, get zapped then learn real quick. Worked for us for years. Also with and electric they can get thru anything under 2 foot and jump about 6 or 7. So keep that in mind and they can sneak between 2 feet of fence.

Our garden has chicken wire up to 4' in height. Then non-electric wire going up from that to 7~8' high. The wire is closer together at the bottom and gets further apart up top. So far is has kept the deer out for the last 4 years.

The mesh fence around our garden is about five feet tall. As you can imagine, deer quickly learned to jump over it. Then, at a friend's suggestion, I added two strands of 50 pound test monofilament fishing line above the mesh. One line is at about six feet, the other is 7-1/2 feet high. That fixed the problem; since I added the mono six years ago, no deer has entered the garden.

(Deer problem fixed. Woodchucks are another matter...)

Deer are easy get it high enough so they can not jump it. Moose are another matter, they just crash through and never go out the same hole as they entered.

LOL First time I saw a moose in the wild was a big cow with calf. I watched that cow just step over a 4 strand barbed wire fence!

We plant our garden big enought to share with the critters......just easyer than trying to fight em!

I put electric fence around my garden and around the field of pumpkins. Three wires is all it takes. The tin foil with peanut butter works for me.

I watched a Black Bear walk along the fence around the sweetcorn field. The bear continually looked at the fence as it walked along it. My guess is that the bear tasted the peanut butter with a little jolt to boot.
