I live in Mi but my youngest is 30 years old. As they were growing up it was my understanding that as long as they had a ins. policy of there own I did not have to carry them on mine. They would be covered though on my car if they were to use it though. As they each moved away or was off to college I would sometimes take a copy of there policy to ins. co to prove they had coverage and a different address than mine. Maybe things have changed since I had to worry about it but it sure was nice when they left as far as my ins. bill was concerned. I would always keep a older vehicile with PL&Pd on it for there use when they did live at home.
