First paint job , need advise

This will be my first try and I need some help, I am not looking for a million dollar job just want it to look nice and clean you know. My first question what is the easist way to remove all the grease and oil, second there is some rust and pitting I dont have the time to sandblast etc. is there a chemical treatment I can use ? I know I have skipped alot of detail ( Ill ask those questions later,) What is the best kind of primer to fill in the pitted areas etc. and what is the best, hardest paint a novice can use without messing it up. ?
