Kevin rather than replace a section of the wire in question,better to replace the whole wire end to end for example if it goes from the ignition switch to the B terminal of the regulator ,replace the whole piece use #12 stranded wire whatever color you canget and put crimp connectors on the ends ,you can get all supplies at Napa and just keep a record of your color code for the future ,get some small tie wraps and you can make it neat,this is not a tough job,and you get a chance to see other trouble spots while you are at it Good luck Danny
