If you are talking about the coupling on the lift all which must be removed to replace the lift all seal, it also unscrews counter clockwise. It can also be real hard to get off. Some folks say to stick something in the pump gears to hold it while you put pressure on the coupling to unscrew it. I was reluctant to use anything metal so ended up taking the liftall apart. Had to clamp the gear in a vise between two blocks of wood with half circle cut outs the diameter of the gear and then insert a bar in the coupling and hammer several times real hard to break it loose.
