Main bearings are much harder to detect as they are a "deeper" sound. You need to get that pan off and plastiguage the mains and rods. That's the only way to know or avert a sudden window through the side of your block - that would ruin your day.
I had an M that had a HUGE amount of rod slop. I never knew it because the oil was thick enough most of the time to hide it. When it was truly warmed up good it knocked like never before. Never sitting still and running, only during a pull. I ripped it apart and the crank was completely toast.
