I've likewise performed several farmer Billy Bob band aid fixes on those saddle mount mechanical push contact starter switches that lasted a long time. Other things that help are to wire brush or light file the copper button/contactor on the starter or wire brush and file (as possible) the switch contactor and I've even re drilled or enlarged the switch mounting holes to make the contacts engage better.
Often a new switch isn't the final cure as the starter button is worn so low even a new switch doesnt make good contact.
