My M Farmall started smoking from the foot operated starter switch recently. It would start but smoke a little, not good. I replaced the starter switch and noticed a problem in the process. The lever is supposed to depress the starter switch, but mine was coming up slightly under the switch and pushing the button up before depressing the switch. I think that caused the switch to fail. The quick fix was to remove the foot lever and grind a bit off of the lever so it contacted the end of the starter button. The reason I am writing this is because others may want to check for the same problem. Ellis
