Did you have your block and head checked for true and flat? For that matter, did the head and block go to the machine shop at all? Disassembling an engine that hasn't been apart for 60 years can cause some warping. If it's been to the shop, one would assume they looked it over pretty closely and would have told you. I put mine together with a 'dry' gasket, no problems. It's possible, assuming the cylinder deck and head are flat and square, that the leak will go away once the engine has heat cycled and you've retorqued the head. The head gasket is designed to "deform" under the heat and compression of combustion and form the permanent seal.
