while tracking down a used engine for a dead C I bought
with the oil pump drive gear on the cam stripped.
(and the bearings and crank ruined because of the no oil pressure)
......
I pulled the front end, pulley, front cover, oilpan, and pushrods/rockers
and yes.. the cam will come out with the rest of the engine still assembled, if you have a LOT of gentle patience. Takes all 10 fingers up inside the block, gently
jiggling the cam and pushing the lifters up with all your fingers,
and working it out a fraction at a time.
Got it out and put the front end back on to move it around til I got another engine.
Would it go back in?...dunno, anything is possible I suppose.
I'll do it on a stand now that I have the new engine installed...
