I am not sure you want to hear this, but you will have less aggravation and ultimately less effort if you just pull the engine.

Others may not agree, but in the end, you will do a better job, and things will be easier. While you have the engine out, you can look at the clutch, pilot bearing, etc.

If you don't dilly-dally and you have the right tools, you can do that job in a weekend.
