If nothing else, Gene's description of the timing/adjustment process will also allow you to figure out the correct length for the throttle rod.
Again:
1. Engine off. Wide open throttle.
2. Remove pin from clevis end of throttle rod.
3. Hold carburetor in wide open position.
4. Adjust clevis until pin slides through everything easily.
You might be able to get enough by adjusting, or at least you can see how much shorter the rod needs to be. A new rod can be fabricated from a piece of steel from a hardware store pretty easily, if all else fails.
